Amazon.com Review
Don't let a power cord put limits on your cleaning. The Eureka Boss Lite cordless vacuum supplies plenty of suction and versatility without a cumbersome, leashlike cord. Designed for quick pickup on bare floors or carpets, this bagless vacuum features a convenient dust cup for dirt collection--when it's full, just quick-release it, and dump it out. At less than five pounds, the Boss Lite is easy to lift, push, and store, and comes with its own wall-mount rack, conveniently connected to the charging plug. Fully extended, the handle makes for comfortable floor vacuuming, but you can also remove it to vacuum tight areas like closets or tidy up the stairs. A motor-driven brush roll sweeps and combs the carpet, sending particles into the path of the suction. Requiring just a few minutes to assemble, the vacuum features a powerful five-cell battery pack that's easy to remove and replace and a charge light that lets you know when the vacuum's fully juiced. Eureka also includes a bare floors/carpet switch, a built-in Edge Kleener for vacuuming near walls and furniture, and a motor filter inside the dust cup. --Emily Bedard

5 out of 5 stars MOST POWERFUL CORDLESS VAC I HAVE EVER USED   July 15, 2010

It is wonderful! For someone who has several indoor cats, I swear by this hand vac.

PROS: It picks up pet hair better than any vacuum I know.
It is great for fluffing up heavy traffic areas on your carpet and stairs
My carpet looks like I use my full size vacuum, it picks up everything
Great on tile floors in the kitchen and bath, picks up crumbs and hair beautifully
Its light weight.
The handle comes off for use on furniture and it helps on the stairs
Picks up cat food and cat litter

I have one minor con but I don't dare give it less than five stars. I love it that much.

CONS: Wish the battery life was longer, but that's ok because it comes with two strong rechargable chargers that can be charged at the same time. I like using it in my entire home, not just for spot clean up. It just makes the carpet look so fresh

light picks up very well. Doesn't have bag to fuss with. A swivel would be nice, but I like it very much!

5 out of 5 stars Battery cycles in general   July 4, 2010

This vacuum does a much better job with cat hair and dirt than any other lite portable we've tried, B&D or Shark. It will do the majority of the house 3 times on a single charge. I recommend not charging the vacuum or spare battery unless they are low, (not dead, just low), as every nicad battery gets cooked by the chargers soon after the warranty period, whether it's 90 days or 1 year.
Engineers continue to specify charging rates far in excess of the capability of the batteries to shed heat. This applies to all nicads and most nimh battery chargers on cheap portable appliances, therefore the batteries, over time, start a chemical chain reaction while being charged which kills them. Battery chargers which are electrically correct, cost about 20 to 40 dollars each, so you can see why they are only included in professional appliances and tools.
To beat this problem and have nicads or nimh batteries last for a few years instead of a few months, you must charge them only when they need it and do not leave them in the charger more than they need to recover. Also the fewer cells used in these batteries, the less chance of an inferior one which will ruin the entire battery pack so use lower voltage battery packs.
The batteries should be used until they are mostly discharged, i.e., when the motor slows down a little bit. Then they should be charged for 16 and no more than 24 hours, and taken off the charger or turn the charger off.
BTW, there is a simple solution to this dilemma, manufacturers should include Chinese made chargers with all portable appliances which charge the batteries with an intelligent rate, constant current, constant voltage, heat and voltage cutoff and .01C trickle rate. One day someone will do this and we should only buy that brand until the rest of them get with the program and we stop throwing away batteries so often. (Oops, they make higher profits selling replacement batteries so there goes the incentive)

4 out of 5 stars Eureka 96 B fine for its intention   July 4, 2010

The Eureka 96 B cordless vacuum does a fine job for what it is intended to do, namely light duty bare floor and surface rug cleaning. It is not a replacement for a full power canister or upright.

Pros: Fairly light, good suction, good filter, and pretty good maneuvering in tight spots. Cleans bare floors well, and does fairly well on surface cleaning rugs. The rechargeable battery holds up with ample time to spare on each cleaning, and luckily has a backup battery charging at all times. The cordless feature is a great convenience.

The cons are that emptying the dirt and cleaning the filter are messy jobs. It releases a cloud of dust and if you aren't careful, some of it ends up on your floor around your trash can. (Nothing like feeling grit in your teeth on your first inhale after a cleaning.) I recommend changing the filter outside the house. Also the filter isn't a very good fit and takes a bit of fiddling around to replace in its holder. But aside from that I am happy with the unit and would recommend it to a friend. We have had a Eureka full size upright for 30 years! and the old girl just keeps going. She'll probably out live me.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent for NYC Apt living   June 14, 2010

The biggest complaint I read in the reviews was that the battery only lasts about 15 minutes - it wasn't a concern for me b/c I'm not trying to do a whole house with it - it's perfect for my needs.

I was looking for something to vacuum my NYC annoyingly SHEDDY rugs with. They've made me crazy. This is perfect. Charge is plenty. Love that I don't have to deal with bags. A bit awkward to empty, but it's a small price to pay for the ease of this vacuum. Love that it came with an extra battery so I always have a charged one.

Only drawback is that it doesn't pick up cheerios/goldfish - which is a HUGE issue for me as mom of a 2 year old son. I still have to use my Swivel Sweeper for that. So I still have to use both, but I'm very happy with the power of the suction and it's very sturdy.

I would give it 4.5 stars if that were an option. Definitely recommend this.
