With the power of an upright in a lightweight, compact design, the hand vac's 4 amp motor provides powerful suction, and its revolving brush aids deep carpet cleaning. For those tough-to-reach spots, such as under car seats or between couch cushions, the hand vac has a built-in stretch hose and a crevice tool (ready to use with Dirt Devil accessories). The two speeds allow you to vary your suction, but be aware that the lower speed is very gentle and the higher speed is loud. The 20-foot cord ensures a large cleaning radius, and a cord strap provides tidy storage. This hand vac is not recommended for vacuuming long strands of human hair--they tend to get caught in the revolving brush. I'm amazed how great it picks up stuff. If you have a dog or cat, it is great getting hair off of the furniture. It's real handy for the car. I have one and I bought one for a gift.

FORGET THOSE DUSTBUSTERS AND CORDLESS VACS!....IF YOU NEED A VACUME THAT'S NOT GOING TO QUIT,OR RUN OUT POWER IN THE MIDDLE OF A JOB,THIS IS THE PRODUCT TO BUY!..WORKS GRAT EVERY TIME...CAN DO EVERY JOB WITH THE ATTACHMENTS...GREAT FOR THE CAR AS WELL

If I were reading all the rest of the reviews of this product, I would have never bought it. Fortunately, I knew much better. I bought this vacuum over 10 years ago, and yes, there were problems with the belt coming off/breaking. However, after getting it repaired, I never had any more problems. It lasted a good 10 years and was the most powerful hand held vac I ever owned. After it finally died, I purchased many many others since I couldn't find it anywhere. I was so sick of the pet hair and trying to constantly use those rollers to pick it up, but no other vacuum cleaner ever worked. I finally found this a couple of months ago on-line and immediately bought it. They have upgraded the product. It is much better than the original, so do not read the older reviews since all the problems with the belt have been resolved. It has the most suction of any (including my upright) vacuum I have ever used. It has can be switched from low to high power, so the issues with it being loud do not apply when you have it on low. Yes, it is quite a bit louder than a little Dustbuster type, but that is because it has a much bigger engine and a lot more power. I have to have it on HIGH to pick up the pet hair off my couch, but it vacuums it right up. I wish I could find an upright with as much power as this that didn't cost a fortune. I love this vacuum and would strongly recommend it to anyone who is sick of wimpy vacuum cleaners.

This hand vac was given to me as a gift. The unit is EXTREMELY loud (unacceptably loud for even a vacuum). The suction on the traditional rotating brush head is poor and the suction of the hose/hand tools is non-existent. Fortunately, we were able to return this hand vac to Amazon and order the Dirt Devil Purpose for Pets Hand Vac (which is excellent). I would not waste your time or money on this product - you WILL be disappointed.
