Although this steam cleaner was highly rated by Consumer Reports, I was not expecting that it would be as easy to use and as efficient as it turned out to be. I cleaned my upholstery, carpets and linoleum and what a phenomenal job it did! I was able to get stains out of my kitchen berber carpet that the steam cleaners could not! I love the rotating scrubbers and the suction is great for removing excess water. I was pleased with the drying time, too. The Pet Formula and Professional strength formula are both excellent. I purchased this carpet cleaner a few months ago after my daugter was finally diagnosed with allergy-induced asthma from dust mites. Our carpet is only a year old, but her allergies are severe, and I wanted to do everything in my power to clear our house of dirt and dust for her precious little body! This has been the best appliance that we own (tied with my Oreck Platinum XL) and am sooooo pleased with it!
Even though I obsessively vaccum our carpets, I still got a ton of dirty water from the rooms I have cleaned so far from this thing. The carpet is barely damp after the last pass - no waiting overnight for dry carpets. Easy to refill the clean water, easy to drain the dirty water. No dripping, no leaking - no fuss! The cord is plenty long for my needs, although the hose/tool attachment is a bit flimsy, so I just took it off and stored it until I need it. I've rented the Rug Doctor before, and it doesn't even hold a candle to this Hoover. I purchased this from another site where I found it $40 cheaper, along with a 5 year extended warranty for an extra $70, since I plan on using it every 6 months atleast. Things break - it's inevitable. Overall, a phenomenal little machine - if I could have an affair with an appliance, this would be the one!

Overall, this carpet steamer is excellent. I would definitely recommend it to anyone.
Pros:
Fantastic suction...my berber carpet was completely dry within 8 hours.
Not quite as noisy as many other carpet cleaners I've used in the past.
Did an excellent job cleaning the carpets.
Easy to assemble.
Came with a small bottle of cleaning solution (enough to do one small room).
Cons:
Slightly difficult to insert the soap/water canister when it's full of water.
Slightly heavier than other carpet cleaners I've used in the past.

We got this steam vac to replace an old one. We should have done it a long time ago. Combined with the Hoover cleaning solution for pets, we can handle anything our old dog leaves for us.
It is easy to fill and empty. The directions are easy to follow.
We are very happy with the Hoover Steam Vac.

After doing some research on performance and reading about this cleaner in Consumer Reports I decided to make the investment this machine instead of paying a professional to come clean my carpets several times a year. After assembling the machine and attempting to use if FOR THE FIRST TIME I noticed the brushes weren't spinning. I consulted the troubleshooting section of the manual and when all else failed called Hoover. After more troubleshooting with the CS Rep it was established that the motor for the brushes was in fact, broken. BROKEN! Right out of the box, never been used B R O K E N. I was given the address of a local repair shop and informed that I would need to take my brand new, never been used carpet cleaner in for repairs.... say wha?!? The repair shop told me it would take 4-6 weeks to repair it.................. Needless to say I returned what was effectively a very fancy, expensive wet/dry vac to the store and I will NEVER buy another Hoover product. So much for QC/QA. Caveat Emptor!
