Eliminating the need for two separate vacuums--one for thorough cleaning and one for quick-and-easy touchups--the Eureka Optima has all the power, features, and performance of a conventional upright coupled with the light weight and convenience of a stick. Where the Optima doesn't cut corners is suction: at just under 12 pounds, this machine can out-draw units twice its weight, and its HEPA filter captures more than 99.9% of dust mites, pollen, and other allergens for cleaner indoor air. Its 12-amp dual- motor system devotes one motor to suction and another to turning the rotating brushroll, which can be switched all the way off for gentle cleaning of hardwoods and other delicate surfaces. The unit's bagless construction eliminates the hassle and expense of disposable vacuum cleaner bags, and its comfort-grip looped handle has 13 different adjustable positions customizable to all users in the family, from the shortest to the tallest. Surprisingly versatile for such an inexpensive machine, the Optima also comes with a decent selection of onboard tools, including a dusting brush and crevice wand as well as Eureka's unique Power Paw. This handheld attachment features a powerful brushroll to remove ground-in dirt and pet hair; its "Riser Visor" shield flips up and down to convert from vertical to horizontal cleaning on surfaces from stairs to upholstery. Suction control allows users to direct power from the floor nozzle to the hose, resulting in a stronger, dedicated airflow in both modes. The Optima isn't perfect: it's a tad loud and the filter does need cleaning, but it represents a unique blend of power, ergonomics, and ease of use at a reasonable price point. And while the unit is rather narrow, its excellent maneuverability and small footprint when stored more than make up for the reduced cleaning path.  The magical carpet cleaner! July 20, 2010

My daughter is away at college and rents an apartment, one of her roomates was moving out and she needed a vacuum. My 2 friends whom already have this vacuum told me of its great features and were both very happy with this product. So, I purchased it and sent it off to my daughter. Within minutes of her receiving it she sent me a text telling me that this vacuum was magical!!! She loves it and it works great for her needs exactly.

Recently purchased this little vac from Amazon. Love the suction, size & adjustable handle. the adjustable handle makes storage in my closet so much easier. Great value for the money. Thanks Amazon. I did not give it a five because the wheels are the only negative I find so far. They are rather cheap & flimsy. They do not roll well & have rough spots on them. Worry about them scratching my hard wood floors over time.

First off, bagless vacuums are just a terrible idea. Unfortunately, most vacuums come that way now, which is the only reason I bought this. The problem with bagless is that most of the debris ends up accumulating around the filter, reducing the suction. The receptacle is only a quarter full before you need to empty the receptacle. And that's even worse as a required step! Not only will dust fly out all over once it's dumped out, but you need to sit for 10 minutes to remove the debris stuck to the filter with a toothpick to adequately get it clean. What a huge waste of time and a mess! I'd gladly pay for a bag to avoid this hassle. At least a bag holds more dirt before losing suction. It got so bad that it couldn't even pick up an ordinary staple on the hard floor.
Another problem is the exhausting air that is at the bottom and blows forward. It's funny to see how as you're moving towards the dirt, some of it blows away! Try going into a corner and watch the dust have nowhere to go but up and into your face! I had to juryrig a kind of deflector to direct the air sideways and up. Isn't it obvious to the manufacturer that this can't work the way they made it?
On the plus side, the telescoping handle is nice, and it's light with a long cord.
Find a bagged vacuum. Trust me on this.

I bought this item to clean my one bedroom apartment. I have carpet, I have a dog and I love opening the windows so it can get pretty dirty. This vaccum is powerful and easy to operate. Love it!
