Product Description Equipped with Dyson Ball technology, this upright vacuum cleaner sits on a ball for easy twisting and turning around furniture and obstacles--no more missed angles or tiresome back-and-forth vacuuming. The ball also encapsulates the machine's 11 amp motor, creating a low center of gravity for even easier maneuverability. The vacuum cleaner uses Root Cyclone technology to separate dirt from the air by centrifugal force, which ensures efficient cleaning with no clogging or loss of suction. Dyson proves no loss of suction using the IEC 60312 Cl 2.9 test standard. Effective for use on all floor types, the unit's motorized brushbar can be turned on to remove dirt and pet hair from carpets, or turned off to protect delicate rugs and floors. It also supplies a quick-draw Telescope Reach wand, which expands to offers 16 feet of reach for stairs, drapes, upholstery, and more.
For cleaner expelled air, the unit comes with a washable lifetime HEPA filter that traps microscopic allergens such as pollen and bacteria. In fact, the air expelled from a Dyson has up to 150 times less bacteria and mold than the air you breathe, and all Dyson uprights are certified asthma friendly by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America. The unit's hygienic 1/3-gallon bin quickly empties without ever having to touch the dust--just press the button and dust empties from the bottom; the clear polycarbonate bin also allows for easily viewing the cleaning progress and gauging when it needs to be emptied. Other highlights include fingertip controls, a constant suction power of 220 air watts, a 24-3/5-foot cord, a maximum reach of 40-2/7 feet, and a lightweight design at only 16-1/8 pounds. On-board accessory tools include a combination tool and a stair tool. The vacuum cleaner measures 12-1/5 by 15-2/5 by 42-2/5 inches and carries a five-year parts-and-labor warranty.

Too flimsy and gadgety March 14, 2010 Chad Rue (Poughkeepsie, NY USA) I don't understand the gushing comments that are posted here. Maybe mine is a lemon, but I have NOT been impressed with this vacuum cleaner. For every good, there is a corresponding bad. The wand is easy to remove, but when you try to use it the hose is pinched at a severe angle which makes it awkward to handle and limits your mobility. The cannister is easy to change, but it has a very small capacity and has to be emptied a couple of times during each cleaning session. The ball does allow it manouver well, but the mechanism that allows it to stand upright is flimsy and keeps coming out of its groove. We have to keep turning ours upside down and forcing it back into position. Finally, despite what they claim, this vacuum DOES loose suction. It's performance now, after a few months, is no better than another of the other mediocre vacuum cleaners I've owned. A little less cutsey and gadgety and a little more robust and reliable would be good. Considering its high price tag, this vacuum cleaner gets a thumbs down.
Too many issues March 5, 2010 Shari Jung (Jasper, IN USA) We purchased this Dyson right after Christmas when our old Dyson finally just wouldn't suck after 6 years. My husband did the research and wanted one good for households with dogs and cats as there is a lot of fur we have to vacuum. Right out of the box, it looked so delicate.
Pros:
1. Love the ball that allows me to go anywhere.
Cons:
1. Power cord is too short to get very far. I keep having to stop unplug and move it to a new outlet just to vacuum one room.
2. Canister doesn't hold very much. I am often emptying it 4-5 times just to keep the suction up.
3. The handle for the extension noose comes loose and is useless as you can't reach very far. The directions don't say anything about the handle coming out...but it never stays in.
4. The release catch for the canister to remove it from the base is also the release for emptying the canister. Creates real messes at time.
5. If the beater becomes tangled even just a little bit, it will stop beating and you have to throughly clean it before it will spin again.
6. It can't pick up little things like dog food. The dog food is too heavy for the suction. Making this about useless to use when the food is scattered across the tile.
7. No height setting for tile/carpet. Only one setting...there you go.
8. Power switch has to be held down for several seconds to turn off and on. No quick push it to get going.
9. No attachments. We received no attachments to help with cleaning the baseboards.
10. Once a month you have to clean 2 filters. Just wasting my time when nothing else works as expected. If it worked, then I wouldn't mind this step.
This is an extremely over priced product. It doesn't have the power to take care of animals like it suggests. Very disappointed since our last Dyson was wonderful. I think I am going to see if I can fix the old old one and junk or sell this one. Not worth any amount to keep.
This is the worst of the dysons March 5, 2010 Emmetts Mom (New Jersey) Love all Dyson products, have Animal and handheld and use them all the time. Bought the "ball" for upstairs ( 2 people ) after using twice red stand broke off, referred by Dyson to my local repair shop, they have seen many of these "balls" with same problem....with this problem by the way you must support the vacuum as it will not stand up ( heavy) returned fixed after 8 weeks... broke again upon use...returned to store with receipt bought a DC 14 for upstairs...much happier
stay away.
Quality vs Quantity March 3, 2010 Sasha R. Lehocky I purchased this vacuum with a little apprehension. I have learned that high price does not equal high quality. Reading past reviews, I saw that people were disappointed, however I do believe that they were expecting more due to brand association and price. I have used a Kirby Legend II, the Hoover Platinum and a in home central vacuum system. Compared the the Kirby it is much lighter and easier to use, the Kirby also has to have regular belt and bag changes. The Kirby is a very powerful machine, but for it's size and weight you would expect that. Overall the Kirby was/is much more expensive but had quality you could feel. The Hover Platinum is the closest vacuum that could compare to the Dyson. The brush head and canister are larger, and the cord is longer, these points alone made me almost purchase that instead. It also has an indicator light that lets you know if the carpet in clean or dirty, a novelty item, but fun to watch. What sold me on the Dyson was the ball and the ease of maneuvering and pivoting. The house vacuum is just convenient and will spoil you. However it is very expensive and is usually installed while the house is being built. The best thing about the house vacuum is the option of having suction levers along the baseboards around the house where you please. The kitchen is a great place to have one, if there is a small spill, just flip the lever, grab a broom and sweep it in the wall. No vacuum can compare in my opinion. With that said, the Dyson is a less expensive option that is comparable in terms of convenience. I also own a Roomba, which is a lifesaver, especially when it comes to an easy daily vacuuming all around the house and leaving the deep vacuuming to once a week. If you own a pet or keep or windows open often, get a Roomba. Overall I would recommend this vacuum. It is light, effortless, convenient and good looking too. My only complaint is the plastic used, I would have thought it would have been thicker and denser, but that is what makes it so light, however I would have rather had denser plastic than a lighter vacuum.
Great item February 28, 2010 Kenneth M. Yellen I love the Dyson vacuum cleaner. It came right on time, and was easy to put together. I would recommend this vacuum cleaner to anybody. Save money and use this vacuum cleaner instead of the purple one. It is the exact same thing, but doesn't have the stair cleaning attachment. Save $100 by just going with this vacuum.
