3 out of 5 stars Not Quite As Expected   March 17, 2010
G. Hanlon
Though the machine appears to do a good job on the carpets, it does not turn off properly when switched to the "off" position. Sometimes if I press on the switch really hard it will turn off, but other times I have to unplug it to shut it down. We've tried tightening the screws down as hard as possible on the back of the handle, but that didn't do the trick. Also, I suspect this is not the "new" machine that was advertised, since the instruction manual said the powered hand tool was "shipped in a plastic bag for protection," and this one was not.

5 out of 5 stars Stars are in limbo! Anxiously waiting for my new vacuum cleaner   March 11, 2010

My old, old, old Hoover Windtunnel finally gave up the ghost and died. I loved it so much that I have bought a new one! The box just arrived in terrible shape, one of the cleaning wands is missing, and the pet tool that is supposed to be packaged in a plastic bag is not packaged at all.
I have contacted Amazon and I have been assured that I will be receiving another one tomorrow, along with a return shipping label for the other one. I have every confidence that Amazon will stand behind its product and that I will be delighted with my new cleaner.

5 out of 5 stars Great Vaccuum   March 11, 2010

Only complaint is that it tends to slip out of the manual mode into the self propelled mode fairly easily. Otherwise very satisfied with the purchase. Well put together vacuum that works well even on hard wood floors.

5 out of 5 stars *****Excellent vacuum with utilitarian (useful) features & components.*****   March 10, 2010

I rarely get 'enthusiastic' about appliances but, this: Hoover U5491900 Windtunnel Anniversary Bagged Upright Vacuum Cleaner is not only an excellent vacuum, but it is also well equipped with components:
1. Two(2) extensions wands (hose attachments, to connect to & elongate flexible vacuum hose).
2. Short, Brush Attachment for hard surfaces.
3. Wedge Tool (Long, Hose-like attachments for table legs & floor brd. trim).
4. Short, wide, vacuum-nose-shaped attachment for stair crevasses.
5. And, my personal favorite, a *suction powered, brush attachment for furniture & hard floor covering(s).
* This is marketed by Hoover® as their 'Pet Hair Attachment'
...(or something similar to the aforementioned attachment). :)
Along with other Windtunnel® Models, this U5491900 has the 'embedded dirt locator'. It is a red & green light indicator that tells you when the embedded dirt is no longer...um...embedded. :) This function seemed to work for a spell on our last Windtunnel®, but it became obvious it had stopped 'locating & alerting' of embedded dirt, when the Visible Dirt was still present, never-mind the pesky, embedded dirt! Overall an excellent Hoover Windtunnel® vacuum with useful & features & components.

1 out of 5 stars Hoover U6485900 Windtunnel Anniversary Vacuum   March 4, 2010

I purchased this vacuum at the insistance of the salesman at Best Buy.

As I was speaking to the salesman, another customer had already picked up the vacuum box, raving about the reviews he just read on this vacuum.

Please do yourself a favor and don't buy this vacuum, unless you like aerobic exercise. Although it has incredible suction, the attachments fly off and I am constantly having to bend down and pick them up. Many times they flew under the bed and tables, which is very, very annoying.

I have had flea problems and have to vacuum daily so I know how expensive the bags are (have to use one every day and then trash it immediately), and how inconvenient it is to have attachments that fly off the vacuum.

If I could, I would get rid of this crappy vacuum today in favor of a Dyson, which has a 5 year warranty.

I had a Hoover for 26 years and it was great, but this Wind Tunnel is a nightmare...pass it up or get a lot of exercise
