Love this Vacuum! September 3, 2010 Lollie F. Raetzsch (COLUMBUS, TX, US) I hate to get emotional about a vacuum cleaner, but if you knew of all the years I have struggled with other vacuums, it would be easy to understand. I have hardwood floors, and the floor attachment doesn't scratch the finish, and you can clean underneath the lowest furniture easily. It is so light weight and easy to handle, both with or without the strap. I put the attachments in an old reusable shopping bag and hang them on the door knob when I walk into a room to clean, so they are right there with me when I need to change them: I prefer this than having them attached to the vacuum itself. The cord is long enough to be able to vacuum the whole upstairs (and down the stairway, too) without having to move to another plug. The reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that I bought (at Amazon's suggestion) the disposable paper bags, only to find that an adapter is needed in order to use them, but I haven't been able to find where to buy one (adapter) yet. It comes with the reusable cloth bag that works very well. Also, the power is adequate for normal household vacuum jobs, but if you sometimes need a bit more suction, you might upgrade to one a bit stronger - which would mean more weight to carry. I highly recommend it to anyone with wood floors - or any other smooth surface.
Excellent Purchase September 2, 2010 IndyDC I bought this vacuum several months ago and have been extremely pleased with it. I use it in my 700 sq ft condo. My place has parquet wood flooring, and several large afghan rugs. I find that the vacuum has great suction on both surfaces. I also like the eco-friendliness of the reusable bag. I am a petite female, so appreciate that the vacuum is light weight and can be easily slug across my shoulder. Additionally, all of the attachments have been great for doing furniture, lamp shades, cobwebs in the corners, baseboards, dusting, etc.
Perfect! August 3, 2010 KL This couldn't be a more perfect fit for my condo! I have mainly wood floors and area rugs. This does a much better job than any vacuum I've tried, including "hard floor" uprights. The only thing some may find distasteful is having to empty the bag. If you have dust allergies, this vacuum may not be for you. It's not "bagless" in the usual sense, but rather it has a permanent dust bag that you need to empty. Just shake it out and rinse and air dry the bag when necessary. Doesn't bother me in the least. No more trying to find "special" bags as with some vacuums. Type "T" bags, anyone?? My old Eureka canister hits the trash!
If you're worried about suction, try removing the hose from the business end and sticking the vacuum flat to a wall! I remember seeing this demo when I was a kid back in the 70's and you know what? It STILL works!
Hoover update August 2, 2010 ninjo I have an older Portapower-Hoover and I recently bought a new one. It's great and the only thing I do not like about it is the new hose because it is too short and low quality. The old hose is longer and made well and I do not use the new one at all,my wife & I clean houses so we use the Hoover constantly it is light and durable.Hoover should have kept the old hose. J.H.
Excellent for our house with hardwood floors and three shedding dogs (and a cat!)... July 27, 2010 Scott Turner (Texas, USA) We have struggled over the years to find the right vacuum for our needs, which is to clean up enormous amounts of pet hair from three huge, shedding dogs from our wood floors. If we go more than a day or two without vacuuming we end up with giant pet-hair-bunnies rolling around everywhere. However, virtually all of the vacuums we tried fell short for one reason or another.
Then we decided to take a chance on this vacuum, and while it is not perfect it has been, by far, the closest fit for our needs. Pros and cons as follows:
Pros:
It has a long cord. We can do our entire house from one central plug with no extension cords. Our house is smallish, so this may not apply to larger houses, but the cord is very long by vacuum standards, which is convenient.
It's lightweight and maneuverable. We typically use the shoulder strap across our chest to the opposite shoulder which holds the vacuum in place securely, and leaves both hands free for vacuuming/picking up/moving furniture/etc.
It can reach into small spaces. A lot of our furniture sits on legs that are about 3-4 inches high, leaving an area underneath that can gather mountains of pet hair. Using the smaller attachments, the long extensions, and the long hose, we can easily vacuum under our couches, tables, and other furniture without moving them.
It's powerful. This vacuum gobbles up all the dirt, dust, and pet hair in our house without any issues.
Good assortment of attachments.
Cons:
The bag is messy to empty. It's a reusable bag, although you can also buy disposable bags if you choose.
The shoulder strap can be uncomfortable. As I said above, we wear the strap across our chest to the opposite shoulder, and the strap pulls against the side of the neck, and can chafe. We ended up buying the Domke U.S. Post Office Shoulder Pad for it, which works great.
There's no place to store/organize attachments when not in use. So if you're using one attachment and want to switch, you have to go back to wherever you have the attachments stored and get the new one. We solved the storage by using coathooks on the inside of a closet door, including one to hang the vacuum from, but it would be nice if the attachments were either attached to the unit at all times, or at least in a carry bag or something you could cart around with you easily.
None of the attachments are powered, meaning no beater bars or spinning brushes. For us this isn't a big issue since our house is mostly hardwood floors and leather/vinyl seating, but if you have a lot of carpeting or rugs, and/or want to use it on cloth upholstery, this might not be the vacuum for you.
