Product Description
iRobot Roomba Pet Series 532 Vacuum Cleaning Robot - Roomba 532 and Irobot Roomba VacuumThe iRobot Roomba vacuum is designed especially for the hairy situations that pet owners face. That's why we designed the iRobot Roomba 532 Pet Series especially for pet owners. You'll be amazed at the amount of pet hair, kitty litter, paw prints, dirt, dust and debris that Roomba for pets picks up from your carpets and hard floors. Roomba 532 systematically cleans up to 3 rooms on a single charge* and gets into hard-to-reach areas like wall edges and beneath furniture while avoiding stairs and other drop-offs. Roomba automatically adjusts from carpets to hard floors and back again. New compact Virtual Wall tells Roomba where to clean by restricting off-limit areas (2 included). When the cleaning is complete, or if the battery is running low, the iRobot Roomba vacuum automatically returns to the compact, self-charging Home Base to dock and recharge. Two interchangeable cleaning bins - a Vacuuming Bin and a High Capacity Sweeper Bin - provide the option for everyday vacuuming or heavy duty cleaning in hairier, dirtier, high-traffic areas. The High Capacity Sweeper Bin is an oversized sweeping bin that holds three times more debris than the vacuuming bin and is ideal for use in larger spaces and dirtier, high-traffic areas. The Vacuuming Debris Bin is a powerful and efficient vacuum that lifts dirt, dust, crumbs and debris. Ideal for routine maintenance of all floors and cleaning deep into carpet and rug fibers. A Replacement Brush Kit - an extra Bristle Brush, an extra Beater Brush and an extra Sidebrush - allows for easy replacement and cleaning of the brushes. Using clean, hair-free brushes ensures that Roomba for pets always cleans at peak performance. Two brush cleaning tools - a cylindrical tool and a bladed comb - provide fast and efficient removal of hair and debris from Roomba's brushes. Two replacement filters help trap dirt, dust and dander inside the robot. What's in the

5 out of 5 stars Works great!   July 14, 2010
Juliana Miller (Columbia, SC, USA)
This product works just as the manual says it does. I have two cats and a dog, and I am surprised at how much hair it picks up. Make sure to empty it after each use.

2 out of 5 stars Pet Vac really not designed for long hair cats   July 12, 2010
M. Clor (USA)
Bought the Roomba 562 (which is simply the 563 with an additional large capacity bin that does not have a filter). Used it for about 1 1/2 weeks, and found that every time the machine completed it's cleaning cycle, there was lots of cat hair built up around the ends of the brushes. And so, there was quite a bit of cleaning after each use. By day 10, the unit kept quitting, giving me an error to clean the brushes - the troubleshooting video specifically showed cleaning the ends of the brushes, obviously an known pet hair gathering place! No matter how clean the rollers were, the unit continued to give me the error every 5 minutes. Customer service was not helpful, referring me again to the same video, so I am sending the unit back.

The unit is not really designed for those with long haired pets. The design of the brushes push the long hairs toward the end of the brushes, which inhibit the ability of the brushes to spin. Then, the unit issues an error message to clean out the brushes. After most cleanings, there was no cat hair in the brushes at all -- but there was a lot wrapped around the spindles at the ends of the brushes.

If this unit were redesigned so that cat hair was actually deflected into the waste bin, rather than just pushed to the end of the brushes where it clogs up, ti might be a worthwhile investment. But until IRobot designs the unit for the intended purpose (pet hair), I won't be buying.

5 out of 5 stars roomba review   July 12, 2010
Deneen M. Lotz (stratford)
I got my Roomba about one month ago. I purchased it so I wouldn't have to vacume every single day. We have a dog that sheds and I can't stand the dog hair.
I love my Roomba. I am happy that I purchased it. I dont' need to use it every day. I thought I would have to empty the canister and clean the brushes every day but I dont'. The reviews I read on it, alot of people complained about cleaning it out every time they use it but I dont' have to.
You still have to do a good vacuming on your own with a vacume that can get in corners. But I love having this Roomba. I would purchase another one.

5 out of 5 stars Best product I ever bought   June 27, 2010
Elena Cronin (North Reading, MA)
I run roomba every other day. My floors have never looked this clean. We have a pug and got roomba because of the shedding. I also put it in our screened in porch and it does an awesome job. But you cannot watch it work as it will make you insane it seems to have no logic to the route it takes. After I clean it I spray the filter with compressed air and I have only changed the filter once. I didn't buy it from Amazon as I wanted a life time warrantee.

3 out of 5 stars Will Upgrade in the Future   June 27, 2010
Christopher Mayo (New Jersey)
I bought the iRobot Roomba Pet Series 532 Vacuum Cleaning Robot a year ago, and have been very pleased with it overall.

CLEANING POWER
When I first purchased this, I lived in an apartment with linoleum tile floors. Before using it, I used a regular vacuum and I even wiped down all of the floors. I turned on the robot and I was amazed to see how much dust it found. I had to empty it two or three times before it was done. I think that's because it got into all of the nooks and crannies underneath everything. The apartment definitely looked better.

EASE OF USE
Very simple to use. Just press the button. Cleaning the robot is no big deal, especially after you get used to it. I suppose it is a little more work than you might have with a regular vacuum, because it does need to be cleaned after each use, but given the fact that you don't actually have to push the vacuum around the house, you still come out well ahead in terms of time spent cleaning.

ADVERTISED FEATURES VS. ACTUAL USE
It is supposed to return to its base, but I have only seen that happen a couple of times. It searches and searches, even passing right in front of it, but usually cannot make it. This doesn't bother me, but it does not perform as advertised.

It is supposed to be able to handle cords and other obstacles, so that you can be out of the house while it runs, but it doesn't do well with them at all. It tends to get hung up on them and cannot extract itself. I've made sure to get all of the cords off the floor, but sometimes one falls down, so you have to watch out. There is a ledge in the entryway between the front door and screen door where it likes to get stuck. It can also get stuck between the dining table chair legs. In general, I prefer to be home when I am using it so that I can keep an eye on things.

It is supposed to be able to detect dirty areas and give them extra cleaning, but I don't think it does so well with this. Sometimes it "detects" a dirty area that looks just fine, and other times there is a dirty area it fails to detect.

PET FRIENDLY?
It isn't bad. My pet is a shrinking violet, and is uncomfortable with any noisy machine (vacuums, dishwashers, etc.) in the house. At first she would be very skittish around it, but now she doesn't mind so much. If it comes by while she is laying down on the floor, she waits until it gets close, then calmly gets up and walks around it to get out of the way.

DURABILITY
It stopped working so well about three months ago. I wrote to customer service explaining that the vacuum had begun collecting and pushing dog hair / dust around, but it had inexplicably stopped sucking it up. I got back a form email that was completely useless. They obviously had not bothered to read my complaint. I did not pursue it further. It was still doing a lot by collecting the dog hair / dust for me.

Recently I moved into an apartment with low pile carpet. It doesn't push pet hair /dust around anymore, and it does an OK job picking up the carpet fuzz from the new carpet, so perhaps this is a better environment for it. I'll keep using it, because it goes under beds and furniture for me. However, I still have to take out the canister vacuum every once in a while to catch the fuzz it misses. I have a feeling that if I had moved here before the dramatic drop in performance, then it would have been just fine.

WOULD I BUY ONE AGAIN?
Yes. Cleaning is so much more pleasant that it is worth the cost. I really like being able to come home, press the button, and have everything thoroughly cleaned for me (cleaner than I could possibly do myself) while I relax, read a book, get caught up on emails, etc. Although it doesn't work as well as it used to, it is still quite nice. I am considering some of the other models and looking forward to some of the improvements irobot has made.
