5 out of 5 stars Miele S4212   August 17, 2010

Very pleased with Miele vacuum cleaner. It is quiet and easy to use. My upright Kirby will fall over when I'm dragging it around to do the wood floors and with this one I don't have that problem. Very pleased with the delivery time.

A compact, quiet, powerful vacuum. I am very happy with it. I just wish it hand a wand extension.

5 out of 5 stars My bride now likes to vacuum, she vacuums everything   August 13, 2010

I have a long history with one vacuum which joined us when we married. This Sharp upright was recommended by a leading consumer magazine some two decades ago and performed well when we had a 1,800 SF home of mostly carpet.
The upright became a problem 4 years ago when we moved across country into a condo with 50% laminate floors and tile bathrooms. Time to replace. Leading consumer magazine really did not offer any good choices. Too many users found the Hoovers, Dirt Devils, and Kenmores the magazine recommended to be junk. $100 to $200 vacuums appear to now be 12 month throw aways. These vacuums are now 14 or 16 amp and are very loud.
So, after losing any interest in the ratings from the consumer magazine, I cruised over to Amazon and started reading vacuum reviews.
I found these Miele vacuums with user ratings above 4 stars across the line and no other brand rated the same.
I ordered the Neptune as it included the turbo tool which we need for area rugs.
I rate this vacuum 5 stars as I could not be critical of a light weight, quiet, multi-mode vacuum. There are six power options, the cord retracts, the wand extends, when she finds the right button, we installed the HEPA filter, the hose and wand vacuum our ceiling air ducts, the ceiling fans, the window valances, and the wheels turn on a dime.
Miele is a German brand who also produce appliances. The vacuum has a 7 year warranty. Find another brand who prides their equipment longer than 12 months, at the most.

4 out of 5 stars good vacuum, but not impressive on carpet   August 10, 2010

You can read all of the wonderful reviews on this vacuum and they are true, however there is one dissapointing issue. I bought the vacuum with the powerhead/turbotool attachment. This is only powered by the suction of the vacuum and is not very strong. It works well on my area rugs with very low pile, but in rooms with carpeting the results were not too impressive. The turbotool roller is slowed by the carpet and, although it picks up dirt, it does not clean very well. If you vacuum frequently it should be fine, but as for anything other than loose surface dirt, you may be dissapointed.

5 out of 5 stars Everything it says -- It is!   July 19, 2010

I have owned a Kirby, Vornado, and an Electrolux over my many years. My noisy Kirby had a big old stinky bag that could not contain the dust after many years of use. I was told to replace the bag. Instead, I bought the Vornado. It did a good job, but the hose kept riping apart and after a lot of heavy duty taping and repeated separation, I decided to upgrade to an Electrolux, which was the most expensive of them all. Using the Electrolux for almost a year, the pliable rubber port that receives the wand had deteriorated and started to smoke. It was replaced under warranty. Almost 90 days later, it happened again and with the new part under warranty for 90 days, it was replaced without cost to me. When it occurred again almost a year later, and I was informed that it would cost over $280 for the part with shipping, I decided to purchase a different vacuum. I chose the Miele because it was described to be constructed of solid parts, stainless steel, and durable material. When I got the Miele, it passed my inspection and was indeed made very well. The noise -- what noise?! I no longer wear ear plugs when I vacuum. The narrow turbo brush fits between spaces my other vacuums could not. I also noticed that the turbo brush is not "fixed" in position, so it moves up and down to some degree to adjust to the subtle height difference on my carpet. I love this machine!
